File this under: A Great Resource from Microsoft (better late than never).
I've spent the last few days reviewing the Advanced SharePoint Videos and Whitepapers that was recently released on TechNet. The papers are thorough. And the videos are extremely helpful. I haven't had a chance to review everything as there is enough information presented to rival a good SharePoint book; but I'm sure the rest is just as good.
What's covered?
- Office SharePoint Server server farm architecture
- Configuring server farms
- Securing server farms
- Configuring performance options
- Backup, Restore, High Availability and Disaster Recovery
- Operations and management
- Capacity planning
- Search architecture and configuration
Better late than never?
An all too common gripe in the SharePoint community has been the complete lack of SharePoint documentation. I've had more than one face-to-face meeting with Microsoft expressing my frustration with their lack of resources. Without hesitation I've told them that whenever I need to find information about anything SharePoint related, I turn to the community for support and rarely anything from Microsoft. Their response has been that they are very much aware of the problem and hear it everyday from their clients.
Kudos to the SharePoint Products and Technologies team for finally publishing this type of information.
Enjoy!
